Cinderella Ball Auction for Cancer Research UK

We're taking part in a Cinderella Ball Auction in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The local Arcana Group of Salons have organised this event for this fantastic worthwhile cause and we are only too happy to be supporting it by helping with one of the auction items:

MK Theatre Chauffeur Driven Panto Night

Family ticket to the MK Theatre production of Cinderella starring Anthea Turner, Bobby Davro & Ben Adams. You will be collected from a Milton Keynes address by a chauffeur driven car provided by us then returned after the performance.

Harriet's first summer as a vintage wedding car

Wow - what a summer - we hope you have had as much fun as we have... Once again it's flown past with a flurry of confetti and champagne, so apologies for the blog silence!

Harriet, our second Vintage Citroen has completed more weddings than we imagined since she was introduced just over 3 months ago. After a thorough restoration we were confident she would meet our high quality and reliability standards. We are pleased to report that there were no problems throughout the summer.

We have been thrilled at the reactions Harriet has had from brides and guests, and are currently sorting through lots of new images and testimonials to include on our new website (coming soon!)

Dorothy (our other Vintage Citroen), the Jaguar XJ and Triumph Roadster have also continued to dazzle guests on many occasions throughout the summer.

Thanks to all our great summer couples - we wish you all the best for the future. Also thanks to Laura at Just-Shoot-Me photography for the pictures!

We are excited to announce that our second Vintage Citroen is now ready for bookings!

Given the rarity of this model of British-built Vintage Citroens, we were lucky to get the opportunity to purchase another.

We have now completed a full restoration, both inside and out, so we are confident that she will live up to our high quality and reliability standards. In fact, she has already completed her first wedding and accrued many bookings.

Further details and pictures will be added to our website shortly, but you are welcome to contact us in the meantime so that that we can send you some or arrange a viewing.

Snow Glorious Snow !

We operate our vintage car all year round, as it remains busy in the winter as well as the summer it helps us to keep our prices the most competitive in the area. The Citroen has been out on 2 weddings in January and one in February so far this year.

We have managed to beat 2 x wedding-car 'in-house' records this year; with the coldest wedding (minus 2 deg) in January and the snowiest in February. The car is equipped with a very good heater (not a 1927 fitment) which allows us to operate the car in such conditions.

Andre Citroen, the inventor and designer of the Citroen 'mark' produced many derivetives of the early Citroen, these included ......... Enclosed saloon cars, Open top tourers, Taxi’s, Lorries, Vans and even cars that ran on railway lines, however, one of my favourite early Citroen derivative is the Citroen 'Half-Track' !

Now there is no doubt that we could do with one of these fine vehicles on our fleet given the current cold spell, however, as they are even rarer than our car there is practically no chance of acquiring one (and it may not snow for another 5 years anyway).

The wedding last Saturday 7th Feb 2009 between Kim and Gavin was carefully planned given the weather conditions, we drove the route early morning and again shortly before the actual journey.

We checked the access in to the brides road, wedding venue and Reception - We made contingency plans which included (as a last resort if the snow was to worsen) a 4-wheel-drive vehicle on stand-by 'just in case' we needed it to get the bride there on time.

I am pleased to announce that our Vintage car performed perfectly given the conditions and those little wheels sunk in to the snow and gripped far better than the larger wheels of modern cars where they compact the snow which prevents traction !

No such problems with the Vintage !

We got through un-aided and did not have to resort to a contingency plan, though we did use our shovel once to rescue another ‘modern’ car stuck in the snow during the day.

Wedding-Car meets Santa

Once a year we assist Santa during the run up to Christmas, when he visits the children in our village to collect their letters and 'wish-lists'.

Now, because Santa is getting on in years and wants to save both his and Rudolf's energy for the 'Big-Day' we volunteered to Pull his 'Float' with both himself and Rudolf aboard and what better vehicle for this task than our beautiful Snowdrift White Jaguar.

We often use our cars for 'out-of-the-ordinary' events especially where a worthwhile charity is involved.

The Charity this year was for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, which is a charity most definitely worth supporting.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only National Charity dedicated to all aspects of this condition. More information can be found here ...... http://www.cftrust.org.uk/ .

After the Christmas run around the village of Newton Longville Santa had a little rest in the comfort of the Jaguar, with one of his little helpers (or in this case elfer).

Whilst it is fair to say that Santa was a 'hit' with the children and many of Santa's friends were very generous in donating to this cause during his rounds, should you wish to donate, information on how to do this can be found at ....

A Triumph in Brighton

Not quite London to Brighton but Milton Keynes to Brighton in our case, our cars (even our Vintage) are all far too young to take part in the London to Brighton veteran car run (pre 1905), however, we took our Triumph for a day out to watch the ‘old crocks’ and during the day we covered a total of 250 miles (this includes onward travel to visit our daughter) …… Not bad for a car that is 60 years old next year !

Of course we never doubted whether our Triumph was up to the task, though, we did doubt the weather! - The night before was torrential rain and the met office prediction was unsure for the following day, however, regardless of this we set off at 0730 in drizzling rain, to visit a fellow member of the Triumph Roadster Club who is fortunate enough to live on the London to Brighton veteran car run route. The sun came out so we had the top down for our onward travel to visit our daughter and kept it down all the way back up as far as the M25 - (not bad for November motoring).

We were amongst the action when a ‘steamer’ car stopped for water and another mere 111 year old vehicle (1897) broke its steering gear on a pot-hole.

I did of course take the camera so here is a small selection of photographs (you may spot our Triumph in the background).

Windsor Carriage Driving Championships

The weather was fantastic as was the variety of cars exhibiting in the classic car show alongside the main event. We were pleased to be able to enjoy a lovely drive there and back in the Triumph Roadster.

From Top Twelve to Double Twelve...

... and no, I'm not talking about dart scores!

Once again our Triumph Roadster had the opportunity for a day out – this time at the historic ‘BROOKLANDS’ 1920’s racetrack in Surrey.

We were invited to bring along our Triumph Roadster for the revival of an event last held in 1939. Following the success of the centenary celebrations for Brooklands Racetrack in 2007, they were keen to keep this as an annual event so it returned again this year.

The Double Twelve can only be described as the biggest and greatest Classic / Vintage car event we have ever attended with one of our cars (In my opinion anyway). The hospitality was excellent and the cars on display were superb - even Lewis Hamilton made some appearance!

The weekend was split into eight challenges - as well as the usual Concours d’Elegance there was a series of 7 driving events to test both the car and me! They included Parking, a hill climb, the wobbly wiggle woggle and 3 (careful) laps around the adjacent Mercedes Benz test track.

Just before we arrived for the track event, Lewis Hamilton gave a spectacular display of his driving skills in his formula one car; reaching speeds in excess of 140 mph down the straight (we reached just 55 mph down the straight, so he was a little quicker than us!) - incredible to watch...

I hope we get an invite to go back next year, then we can equip the car with wide wheels and a big V8 engine – no only kidding! As always, our Roadster performed perfectly and we like it just how it is.

Oops – I don’t think I did very well on the parking test! However, despite this we still came first overall in the driving events section and even managed 3 first places out of the 7 tests!

The slalom was much better - a completely clear round... do you recognise the famous Brooklands 1920’s banked track?

Remember the Concorde that used to be on the roundabout at the entrance to Heathrow? – It’s at Brooklands now!

Overall we had a great weekend at this excellent motoring event and it's certainly worth attending in 2009!

Triumph Roadster achieves Top Twelve Award 2 years running

As classic car enthusiasts, we enjoy being members of appropriate clubs for each of the cars that we operate. This means that we can often be found taking part in club / charity events exhibiting the cars.

One of the main events that we go to is the Triumph Roadster Club Annual Rally and for last two years our car has been entered into the ‘Concours d’Elegance’ section. I am very pleased to report that once again we picked up a sought after ‘Top Twelve Award’ - a great honour for a car which we restored some years earlier.

We had an excellent time at the Rally, held this year at Woburn Abbey, and as always the Triumph Roadsters were well received by the public.

Fortunately we weren't tempted to go for a quick drive through the safari park - although the roadster is perfectly suited for summer weddings, we're not quite sure how bear or tiger-proof it is!

Wedding-Car meets Sergeant Bergerac

For whatever reason, whenever we disable one of our cars for a bit more than routine maintenance, we normally get a call asking if it's available (you know – it’s a bit like every time you sit down to eat the phone rings)! On this occasion we were in the process of changing the 13 sq metres of carpet in the Triumph Roadster (yes 13 sq metres of carpet!).

The car was up on stands, the wheels were off, the interior was stripped out and the old carpets were busily providing patterns for the new ones – we had plenty of time complete before the car's next engagement at Woburn Abbey – then the email came from Norway:

“We are a TV station in Norway (TV2) and we are making a 3rd series of a popular TV show called Golden Years. We would like to use your Triumph Roadster on the set of Midsomer Murders to interview John Nettles who currently plays DCI – Tom Barnaby and who played the part of Sergeant Bergerac in the Jersey based detective series ... as his daily transport in Bergerac was a Triumph Roadster could your car be at Gerrards Cross next Tuesday...”

Given that the Triumph Roadster was the every day transport of Sergeant Bergerac we could not miss this opportunity, so the carpet installation program was bought forward, to be completed in just 4 days! Despite the sewing machine having an incredible appetite for needles and Sue having to hand sew the wheel arch covers (4 hours of sewing on each one) the carpets were completed in time and now look better than ever (ready for the summer weddings).

It was a beautiful sunny day so with the top down I set off for Gerrards Cross with my daughter (our keen photographer that took all the photos for this blog post) and a colleague from the Triumph Roadster Club to meet the man that has done much to make the Triumph Roadster marque famous.

At the end of the interview, I had a surprise chance to act along side John Nettles as a ‘link’ between the various celebrities being interviewed by TV2, Norway – I only had one line to say but it was still a lot of fun.

Having the actor that actually played Bergarac sit in our Triumph Roadster was also a wonderful privilege!

90th Birthday Surprise !

Now I know that women do not like to give away their age but in Florrie's case had she not given away her age we would never have guessed she was 90 - a remarkable achievement.

When Emma contacted us with news of her Nan’s birthday there was no hesitation in volunteering our beautiful Vintage Citroen to provide Transport for Florie’s great day. Remembering that our Vintage Citroen is a mere 81 years old, Florie could remember these cars on the road during her childhood – it was a great surprise for her and a real pleasure for us to make the car available. We have already volunteered to provide the transport for her 100th !

Unfortunately we have had to change the names of all the pages, however you should be redirected to the correct new page automatically.

You will notice that images are far more prominent throughout the new site along with more helpful content, a new contact form and other useful features.

Order of the Golden Sabre

One of our Chauffeur’s roles is to serve Champagne to the Bride and Groom in the course of his duties, in this picture taken outside the popular wedding venue and famous WW2 code-breaking establishment - Bletchley Park, Ray is picking up tips from Master of Ceremonies and Toastmaster Ken Chaproniere.

Ken is a Chevalier Maitre-Sabreur of the order of the Golden Sabre – Le Confrérie de Sabre d’Or. Basically he is conversant in the ancient art of ‘Sabrage’ – this is opening a Champagne bottle with a Sabre! – It is a time honoured art and tradition started by cavalry officers in Napoleon’s army.

Whilst at Wedding-Car we are not going to employ the ‘Sabre’ and re-train our chauffeurs just yet (we will leave it to the expert) Ken explained that ‘Sabrage’ is a great way to start any party particularly a wedding reception.

The tradition goes particularly well at the moment before the cutting of the wedding cake by the bride and groom. The master of ceremonies calls for silence whilst the bride and groom ‘Sabrage’ a bottle of champagne. (The secret is to hit the champagne cork with the sabre at the correct angle and with the right degree of force in order to send the cork spectacularly flying through the air)!

Why not add something really special to your wedding reception – Something spectacular!

The Cotswolds Saunter - Triumph over Ford

For this event, we met up with other members of the Triumph Roadster Club and had a nice drive through the Cotswolds.

As you can see, the roads were a little on the damp side, however a great day was had by all with everyone making it safely back home again afterwards.

Quainton Classic Steam Rally
