More Information

This very rare Citroen 12/24 ‘Deluxe’ Saloon was built at Citroen’s factory in Slough, England in 1927. It is a genuine Right Hand Drive Vehicle and was sold from a dealership in Ipswich, Suffolk during the first week of 1928. The car's lights, fittings and instruments were made by two British Companies ‘King of the Road - Lucas’ and ‘Ripaults of London’.

This vehicle is registered on the vintage Citroen register and appears as one of only two on the road worldwide. There are just 3 other 12/24 Citroen Saloons known to be in existence, (in Ireland, Australia and UK) but these vehicles are not on the road at this time.

The Citroen 12 / 24 was the British equivalent to the French B14 Saloon - unlike the French motor cars, the British built vehicles were fitted out with a luxurious interior (to include a veneered dash board and door cappings), additional instrumentation and ‘servo’ (power) assisted brakes! Not bad for an 80 year old motor car.

This car has had some very sensible and concealed modifications made, to allow it to be driven both reliably and safely on today’s roads. The car is in regular use and has proved to be a reliable and well-photographed vehicle wherever we take her - more can be seen on the events page.

What else was happening in 1927?

  • King George V reigned when this car was new nearly eighty years ago.
  • The first ever Transatlantic telephone call was made from New York to the City of London and the first ever-transatlantic crossing was made by the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh.
  • 1927 was also the year that the silent movie era ended.
  • Ford stopped making the famous Model ‘T’ “in any colour you like as long as it is Black”.
